Title:
"Risk and sustainability in financial networks"

Abstract:
I discuss some key insights from financial network models for systemic risk and for climate-related financial risk, two areas of interest for financial risk management and sustainable finance. Financial network models enable quantifying how externalities at the micro-level build up at the macro-level through chains of financial contracts and other interactions. The relationship between network structure and systemic risk is complex and still not widely understood in the discipline. Climate-related financial risks have gained the attention of scholars and decision-makers only more recently. In this regard, I discuss some key challenges to quantifying financial risk in the face of uncertain climate scenarios, approaches for financial valuation, and climate stress tests at financial institutions.
