Joint Conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought
(ESHET) and the History of Economics Society (HES)
26-29 May 2026
We are glad to invite you to the first-ever joint conference of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought (ESHET) and the History of Economics Society (HES), set to take place in city of Nice from May 26th to 29th, 2026.
This event is hosted by Université Côte d'Azur and the GREDEG (Groupe de Recherche en Droit, Économie et Gestion).
It will take place at the Campus Saint-Jean d'Angély at the University Research School-ELMI. The University Research School of Economics and Management brings together faculty and researchers from Université Côte d’Azur and SKEMA Business School.
The conference will revolve around the theme, "Economists under Pressure and the Political Limits to Economics" In a global context of rising geopolitical tensions and authoritarian rule, this conference will examine from a historical perspective how political pressures have shaped, constrained or transformed the production of economic knowledge.

All submissions must be made through the official conference website https://www.eshet-conference.net/joint-eshet-hes-nice by 22 December 2025.A new format for sharing your work: the scientific poster presentation : A scientific poster is a visual summary of a scientific production that will be displayed in the common areas with the author present. Posters allow for more direct and informal one-on-one interaction, fostering extended conversations and detailed questions. This can be a great opportunity for researchers and young scholars to interact more deeply with others about their work by using posters as a conversation starter. Furthermore, posters provide a flexible platform for contributions that may not fit a standard paper format, such as research project proposals, presentation of digital platforms, exploratory work and results, or databases and data repositories.
- Individual paper: Submit an abstract of approximately 400 words.
- Organized sessions: Proposals should include three or four papers (each with an abstract of approximately 400 words), along with a session title and rationale (600 words total).
- Poster
- Young Scholars Session: Doctoral candidates and early-career researchers (PhD awarded after 2022) are encouraged to submit their work. Travel grants will be available.)
Notifications of acceptance will be sent progressively, on a rolling basis, and no later than 30 January 2026.
