Title:“Rethinking Medical Innovation: Explaining interactions and knowledge flows in innovation ecosystems between companies, TTOS, and universities for medical innovation".
Abstract:Professor McKelvey’s seminar will rethink medical innovation, emphasizing an ecosystem approach. This perspective highlights the complex relationships between demand, scientific collaboration, and government regulation. Her talk first establishes why this framework is needed. It then presents two empirical studies. The first examines “academic engagement,” exploring how a TTO facilitated a cross-border R&D center between AstraZeneca and French academics, acting as a crucial intermediary. The second analyzes crisis management, using COVID-19 cases in Iceland and the AZ/Oxford vaccine. It shows how success required dynamic new governance, stimulating collaboration across universities, companies, and agencies while adapting regulations.
