An Ecosystem Approach for the use of AI for Sustainability: The case of the French Riviera

This paper examines the adoption and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) for the purpose of enhancing sustainability within the tourism sector of the French Riviera. A series of qualitative interviews with key stakeholders, including researchers, local government officials, tourism professionals, and technology innovators, revealed a multitude of perspectives on the current and potential applications of AI in sustainable tourism practices. The findings indicate that AI-driven solutions can facilitate efficient resource management, personalized experiences, and enhanced decision-making while addressing challenges related to energy consumption and social acceptance. The paper puts forth an ecosystem-based approach, underscoring the necessity for interdisciplinary collaboration to fully leverage the potential of AI for the development of a more sustainable and resilient tourism model in the region.
