Title : Comparative evidence of profit shifting by Foreign owned enterprises in Vietnam

Abstract : In this research, we investigate the effects of ownership on the productivity, profitability and value sharing between wages and profits withing Manufacturing firms in Vietnam. We work on a rich panel covering the universe of Vietnamese Manufacturing firms over the period 2000-2018. Our preliminary results show that foreign-owned firms (FOE) outperform domestic owned firms in terms of productivity but under-perform the latter in terms of profitability. We are currently investigating if FOEs exhibit also specific patterns in terms of value sharing between wages and profits. Our aim is to provide indirect evidence of the existence of profit shifting by multinationals located in Vietnam and also to investigate to what extent this behavior differs across different types of Foreign investors depending on the country of origin of the Foreign charter capital.
